Our Approach

At The World Outside, we provide outdoor, nature-based alternative provision for children who are finding it difficult to thrive within traditional classroom settings. We believe that many pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs do not lack ability or potential; often, they need time, space and trusted relationships to rebuild confidence and engagement with learning.

Our provision supports children to:
-
build resilience, self-esteem and self-confidence
-
develop positive relationships with peers
-
learn to trust adults through calm, consistent and respectful support
-
experience a sense of belonging within a small, supportive group
-
regulate emotions through movement, outdoor activity and shared experiences
-
discover new interests and practical skills that build confidence beyond the classroom
If you would like to discuss whether this provision may be suitable for a pupil or group, please get in touch.

Weather and Clothing
Sessions run in most weather to build resilience, but safety comes first. We cancel for severe conditions (high winds, storms). Pupils need appropriate outdoor clothing - lack of kit is treated supportively, not punitively.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding responsibility remains with the commissioning school. Our staff are enhanced DBS checked, and a Designated Safeguarding Lead is always in place. We maintain clear communication pathways with schools.
Behavior Approach
We view behavior as communication. We use a relational, trauma-informed approach focused on co-regulation and emotional safety. No punitive measures or planned restraint.
