About the World Outside
At The World Outside, we create purposeful outdoor learning experiences that help children, young people and adults learn, build confidence, connect and thrive.
From curriculum-linked school visits, regular Forest School and Alternative Provision to family sessions, holiday clubs, adult wellbeing and bespoke groups, our programmes combine professional expertise with hands-on experiences in the natural world.
Our Story
The World Outside grew from a lifelong belief that people learn, grow and connect when they have the freedom to spend meaningful time outdoors.

Founded by Sandra Hill, The World Outside brings together 15 years of Forest School experience, 36 years of Scouting, a background in landscape architecture and extensive experience in education and outdoor learning.
​
Sandra has also spent many years working within early years education, including founding and running The World Outside Outdoor Kindergarten. This experience developed a deep understanding of child development, play, appropriate risk, independence and the importance of giving children meaningful opportunities to explore and learn outdoors.

The World Outside has always been a family-supported business too. Sandra’s family have been very much part of the journey, helping behind the scenes with everything from volunteering and supporting events to practical jobs, maintenance and all the many things that keep an outdoor business running.
​
Like many businesses, our story has also included some significant personal challenges. Following Sandra’s experience of cancer, her belief in the importance of nature, connection, wellbeing and meaningful time outdoors has become even stronger and has helped shape the next chapter of The World Outside.

Over the years, The World Outside has continued to grow and evolve. Today, we create high-quality outdoor learning experiences with real purpose for children, young people, schools, families and adults.

Whether we are bringing the curriculum to life, supporting a young person through Alternative Provision, delivering regular Forest School for a school, building confidence and wellbeing, or simply helping families enjoy memorable time together outdoors, our aim remains the same:
