What is Wilderness Explorers?
Wilderness Explorers is a fun, two-hour Forest School session for children aged 5–12, accompanied by a parent or other adult.
Each session has a different theme – from dragons, dinosaurs and fairies to owls and minibeasts – with hands-on activities such as fire lighting, tool use, woodland crafts, nature exploration and plenty of time to play and explore.
Sessions are led by qualified Forest School Leaders and The World Outside is an FSA Recognised Forest School Provider, so activities are carefully planned and delivered in line with the Forest School ethos.
The sessions are child-led and free-flowing, so children can choose to join the focused activities or follow their own interests, explore, play and engage with the woodland in their own way.

What if it rains?
We embrace the weather! Wilderness Explorers takes place outdoors whatever the weather, and both of our woodland sites have large shelters where we can keep cosy and dry when we need to. A bit of rain often adds to the adventure – just come dressed for the weather, with a waterproof coat and suitable footwear.
Can I bring younger/older siblings?
Yes, siblings are very welcome. If they will be joining in with the session, simply purchase them a ticket too.
Non-walking babies aged 12 months and under can come along free of charge.
Do I need forest school experience
Not at all.
Wilderness Explorers is designed for everyone, whether it’s your first Forest School session or you’re already a regular.
Our experienced leaders will guide the activities, and children can join in as much or as little as they like
How far is forest school from the car park?
It’s around a 5-minute walk from the car park.
About two-thirds of the route is on hard paving, followed by either a walk down a field or along woodland paths, depending on which site we are using.
These areas can become muddy, especially after wet weather, so sturdy, weather-appropriate footwear is recommended
Can I bring a pushchair?
Yes, pushchairs can usually be brought down to the Forest School site, although the ground can be muddy and uneven after wet weather, so large all-terrain wheels are recommended.
What is the mobility access like?
The Forest School sites are around a five-minute walk from the car park, with approximately two-thirds of the route on hard paving.
The final section is over a sloping grassy field or along woodland paths, which can be uneven and muddy in wet weather.
Access may be suitable for people with some mobility who are comfortable walking a short distance over uneven ground. If you have any mobility concerns, please contact us before booking so we can discuss your individual needs and the site we will be using
